What is Glocal?

Glocal exists to increasingly mobilise New Vine Church to Give! Go! Pray! for mission—global and local.

Glocal is the mission and justice program of New Vine Church in Newcastle, Australia.

Since it began in 2003, Glocal has raised and distributed over $AU2.4 million to support mission and related Christian work, globally.

But Glocal is about so much more than money.

While your donations enable New Vine to support critical work around the corner or around the world, Glocal is a commitment of the head, hands and heart—not just the wallet. It's about finding your place in God's mission, through giving, embracing opportunities to go, and actively supporting our Glocal Partners in prayer.

That’s why Glocal now has three key program areas: Glocal Give! Glocal Go! and Glocal Pray!

When you sign up to support Glocal, you'll receive regular Glocal Updates, including Partner and prayer news, and info about upcoming Glocal Go! opportunities.

Glocal Pray!

Glocal Pray! provides information and opportunities to pray for our Glocal Partners, our church and even ourselves as we seek to serve God together in mission.

Our Core Values

1. Follow Jesus’ lead

We take a posture of servanthood, humility, listening, learning, and loving.

2. Value partnership

Wherever possible, we will develop long-term partnerships and avoid re-inventing the wheel.

3. Do good (not harm)

We strive to ensure that we help, not hurt, wherever we work or support the work of others.

4. Be accountable

We will be transparent and accountable with donors' funds, treating them with responsible and prayerful stewardship.

5. Foster future mission

We champion the general Christian calling to life on mission, and special vocations in mission.

These values inform how Glocal operates, develops partnerships and determines what work and activities it will promote, support and fund. An expanded set of these values can be found below.

About New Vine Church

New Vine Church is a contemporary Baptist church in leafy surrounds in the suburbs of western Newcastle, Australia.

The church was planted by co-pastors Paul Whiting and Andrew Cole in 1995. Since then, the church has grown from 30 to over 300 people, from young families to senior citizens. With a spacious, purpose-built facility in Maryland/Fletcher, New Vine offers a warm welcome, a contemporary worship experience, inspiring preaching, and a simultaneously laid back and upbeat vibe.

New Vine features a lively Kids Ministry (as well as creche and cry room) on Sunday mornings, Youth Group on Friday nights, and various other ministries and meetings for all age groups throughout the week. New Vine also offers Church Online for those unable to join an onsite service, or who live in a different part of the world.

FAQs

  • Mission starts with the sending by the Father of the Son, and the Spirit, and is continued on a human level in the sending by Christ of the Church in the Spirit. Mission is comprised of many actions and undertakings where those human actions are led by and align with God's own acts. Such actions may including the sharing of the Gospel in word and deed; discipleship and training for Christian ministry; and Christian development or social justice ministries (for example, releasing people from slavery and oppression) conducted in Jesus' name and under his lordship. Jesus' own "mission statement" in Luke 4:18-19, along with the wider Scriptural witness, inform the Church's—and by extension, New Vine's—understanding of mission, today.

  • Development refers to activities intended to improve the well-being of those living in poor circumstances or communities, usually in international settings, and—in Glocal's case—performed by Christian partners.

  • Social justice is a phrase widely employed, and therefore broadly understood, in the world today. For Glocal’s purposes, it refers to an environment which aligns with God’s love for human beings in their social as well as individual lives, along with his desire to see them live with dignity, humanity, freedom, and a level of self-determination in such settings. Social justice in this sense is derived from the evident concern of God in the Old Testament, and continued in the life and teaching of Jesus and his disciples, for God's beloved creatures to be treated fairly, justly, and with compassion, and not subjected to injustice or oppression.

  • Glocal supports partners across eight Key Mission Areas.

  • When a funding target for a Key Mission Area (KMA) is met, we re-allocate surplus funds from that KMA according to greatest needs and funding shortfalls in other KMAs. Our funding targets in each KMA are built on our advance commitments to Glocal Partners. Once we have funded the commitments in one KMA, reallocating surplus funds enables us to meet commitments to other Glocal Partners. While we welcome Glocal Supporters indicated a preference for which KMA they prefer their funds to go toward, support for the Glocal General fund provides the most immediate flexibility.

  • No. Donations to Glocal are not tax deductible. Direct support for some partners (e.g. Compassion, International Justice Mission) may be tax-deductible, but it is your responsibility to check with that organisation, directly. Glocal is not able to provide tax deductible receipts.

  • To sign up and become a regular Glocal Supporter, head to the Give page. There, you'll find an area to specify the amount you wish to give, how often you'd like to give, and an option to support a particular Key Mission area – using your credit or debit card through our secure giving platform.

  • No. We won't use any information you provide us for any purpose other than to provide you with regular Glocal Updates, and to communicate with you about your gift if needed. You can unsubscribe from emails at any time, and contact us at glocal@newvine.org.au if you have any concerns or questions about your privacy.

  • Yes! To do so, head to the Glocal Give! page, where you can find our bank details for the transfer. We recommend becoming a Glocal Supporter through our secure platform, which enables regular giving. This takes the hassle out of remembering to transfer, regularly, and assists us with forecasting how much support we can give to our Glocal Partners.

  • Yes. While monthly supporters help us provide regular and reliable support to our Glocal Partners, your one-off donation is also greatly appreciated and can help us reach our Glocal Give! goals.

  • Directing your Glocal Give! support to the Glocal General Fund provides the most flexibility with your donation: we can direct those funds to where they are most needed. However, if you prefer your support to go to a particular Key Mission Area (KMA), you can indicate that when you sign up. Note that any monies received for a KMA in excess of those which can be used in that area will be directed back to the Glocal General Fund, anyway, and will be used where most needed.

  • Regular donations allow us to know more accurately how much support we can offer to our Glocal Partners at any point in the year. In turn, this helps us to give regular and reliable payments to Glocal Partners who depend on our support to fund their vital work. Also, giving monthly or weekly is easy (and secure): once your regular support is set up, you don't need to worry about remembering to make one-off donations. You can be confident that your support will continue.

  • We withhold a maximum of 5% of donations to cover admin, website and promotional expenses. This enables us to keep our website and Supporters updated regularly, administer the funds and their transfer to Glocal Partners, and continue to spread the word about Glocal. Where we can reduce costs, we will!
